I guess this is more than a year now since WhatsApp has been trying to release Fingerprint authentication to Android users
The feature was previously announced in January 2019, rolled out to iOS users in February and available to Android beta testers in August, just now it is rolling out globally to all Android users.
You can now secure your WhatsApp conversations with an additional layer of biometric security. This means you can bid goodbye to all those third-party app lockers or the thought of switching to an expensive iPhone just for the sake of this feature.
If you activate this feature, it will require fingerprint authentication before you can have access to your WhatsApp application. Kindly note that widget content will be hidden if you activate this feature.
Although Users can still reply to messages and answer WhatsApp calls from notifications, since the authentication of the fingerprint is required when the user wants to open the app and access it.
How To Enable WhatsApp Fingerprint Security
- First of all, update your WhatsApp application to the latest version on Playstore
- Now tap on Settings > Account > Privacy.
- You will find Fingerprint lock there.
- Turn on ‘Unlock with fingerprint’ option to enable the feature.
- Confirm it by touching the fingerprint sensor.
You can also choose to lock your WhatsApp application ‘Immediately’, ‘After 1 minute’ or ‘After 30 minutes’.
